Are your teeth getting longer? Are they more sensitive? Are they bleeding and causing you pain? Any of these issues could be a sign that your gums are receding. If you notice any of these issues, please contact us soon—especially if you notice the appearance of your smile changing. Sadly, gum recession can be caused by several issues, meaning there are also a wide variety of potential treatments.
One of the most common reasons for gum recession is old age. Brushing too hard, overcrowded teeth, teeth grinding and trauma to your teeth can also be reasons for receding teeth.
Naturally, preventing gum recession is better than addressing the issue, but it isn’t overly difficult. In fact, you can generally prevent gum recession simply by flossing and brushing adequately. Similarly, if you catch gum recession early, a deep cleaning can usually prevent the problem. Still, please don’t wait too long to visit us or the problem could become serious.
Our dentist can give you specific treatments, but the solution could be as simple as changing your toothbrush or wearing a mouthguard when you sleep. However, at times more drastic treatment could be necessary.
If you notice that your teeth seem to be getting longer or that your smile is changing, we recommend getting to our dentist, Dr. Dennis Coyle, as quickly as possible.
